At its core Compañeras is a show about community, and how it can build up or destroy people. Set in Punta de Rieles women’s prison in Uruguay in the mid-1970s, Compañeras details the stories of seven political prisoners and one guard during their time in prison. While the stories of the women and the guard differ, their ultimate objective is the same: survive.
